Emergence University | Admissions Requirements
Prerequisites
In order to apply, candidates must have completed at least one year of Emergence Psychotherapy with a licensed Emergence Practitioner. During this year, the candidate must demonstrate a sincere desire and capacity to learn, teach, and use Emergence theories and practice. Realize, this cannot merely be a desire to learn in order to gain skills for oneself. Rather, this desire must include wanting to make a genuine difference out in the world, by teaching others what has been learned.
In general, there are four areas in which the candidate must have acquired at least a basic skill set.
- the candidate must have acquired a basic ability to pre-learn (no memorizing, no notes)
- the candidate must have acquired a basic ability to teach this skill set to someone else
- the candidate must have personally experienced at least two life-changing emergences
- the candidate must have acquired a basic ability to guide others to have personal emergences
A list of suitable therapists can be found on the under the Admissions drop-down menu tab.
There are no professional requirements.
The Admission Process | Step One: The Interview
The first step in the actual admissions process is for your therapist to request that an interview session be scheduled for you. Sessions are usually occur on Zoom and last for 3 hours. Here you’ll be meeting with three people: Sam Snider (Dean of Students), Hanna Hipp (Executive Director), and Steven Paglierani (founder of the school). Each of us has his or her own things we will be looking for. But above all, we will be looking for an openness to learning to “pre-learn” (questions not answers), the ability to pass on what they discover during their time here, and an internal desire to make a difference in the world, and in their chosen profession.
The Admission Process | Step Two: Sitting In With A Sponsor Group
In this second step, you will be sent the name and contact information for one of the school sponsors. You will then need to contact this sponsor to schedule a time when you can sit in on one of his or her sponsor groups. These groups—usually a sponsor and two to three students—generally meet online, weekly, for 2 hours, throughout the school year.
The Admission Process | Step Three: Attending the Summer Retreat/Seminar
Toward the end of each school year, we hold a 10 day Summer Retreat/Seminar. Attendance is mandatory for all registered students. Prospective incoming students are required to attend this seminar as well. Here, we live together and get to personally know each other as human beings. During this time, you’ll also, attend 12 two-and-a-half hour groups.
The Admission Process Succeeds | The School Year Begins
If all goes well for you and for us, you’ll then automatically be enrolled in the following school year. Each school year begins in September, in the week following the end of the retreat. Here, you’ll be assigned a sponsor group and will attend weekly meetings, schedules to be determined by your group. You’ll also attend a once-a-month Student Seminar, usually on the fourth Saturday of each month, from 10 AM to 1 PM.
