The 4 Social Priorities (excerpted from Unraveling Human Nature, 2011)
This, the 2nd sublayer of layer 7, determines our sense of which of the 4 kinds of needs we are currently sensing.
The Four Social Priorities: What Kind of Needs Are We Sensing?
In the first sublayer of layer 7, we figure out whose needs we should focus on—our own or someone else’s. Thus character type is essentially about two things—“who” has needs and “who” should meet those needs. Once we know these things, we then move on to the second sublayer of layer 7 wherein we determine “what kind of needs” we’re dealing with. Here we use our social priorities to divide all needs into
four categories.
In one sense then, the four social priorities are our four basic categories of needs. But they’re also the four “holy grails” of human nature in that they are the four things we believe will eliminate our needs.
