Why do people prefer erroneous traditional processes rather than new science fact-based programs?

Almost every child, before they turn seven, experiences some variation of a particular kind of life event. This particular kind of life event then forms the foundation for accepting bullshit without question. And while the science behind what I’m saying isn’t commonly known yet, I’ve three decades of scientific evidence which supports this claim in my most recent book (Therapy for Therapists (a guide to changing lives), Sept 2020).

What kind of a life event? Any event which startles us. Getting startled programs us to regress to, and relive, these painful events. Moreover, this happens to us involuntarily and despite any and all efforts to prevent doing this. If we get startled, then when we get triggered, we cannot help but relive this painful event.

The critical thing to know here is how we relive and experience these events. We relive them knowing only what we knew about life at that time. So if we get startled at age three, we relive this event knowing only what we knew at three. Age seven. Same thing. And so on.

What kind of startling life event programs so many of us to believe bullshit? A seemingly simple, common, ordinary, everyone experiences this, life event. If, as a young child, before age four, we do something an adult sees as wrong AND if said adult demands we explain why we did this, then in an effort to avoid being punished, we learn to regurgitate, on the fly, the bullshit necessary to explain ourselves.

Why can’t we, as adults, think our way out of doing this?

Because we do not learn to tell watch, clock and, calendar time (time over time) until about age seven. Logic requires that we can see how events unfold over time. Logic takes the form of “this, then this, therefore this.” So understanding logic requires us to see how things unfold over time.

The thing is, before age seven, we cannot see how things unfold over time. Before age seven, we experience time as whatever we feel in the present moment AND only that moment. So if a parent startles us by demanding that we explain why we just did something, and if this happens before we can understand logic, we desperately look for anything which will get us out of trouble.

This then is why so many people believe shit that is blatantly illogical. We are programmed to do this in painful events whenever we feel the need to explain ourselves.

The takeaway?

Children can be awed by things science discovers. But only people in an adult state of mind can understand what is and is not proper science.
