The first in a series of Emergence Basics Seminars where the teaching responsibilities are shared by three Emergence Teachers. The three teachers? Maria, Sam, and Steve. Each of them teaches for roughly an hour, on a topic of their choice. Overall though, these three topics all address the same overarching theme. The question, “What makes it so hard to learn Emergence?”
In this, the second in a series of seven videos, Maria, Sam, and I explore what is surely one of the more difficult to explain topics in Emergence – the nature of certainty. Here we look at how Emergence can claim that, in a small number of cases, we can know with certainty what we are seeing. The cases? Naturally occurring pairs of perfect opposites, opposites that resemble coins in a coin toss. We claim to be able to know which certainty which of the pair we are seeing. Does this sound simple? It’s not, The implications for scientific measurements are beyond important. How? This is what this video is about.
In this, the third group in the Emergence Basics Seminar series, Sam, Maria, and Steve explore what may be one of the more difficult, yet profound, topics in the series – Perfectionism, Truth, and Why We Need Theory. The topic of “perfectionism” leads us to the main reason why learning Emergence is so difficult. Students try to ask perfect questions, and try to attain perfect understanding, right out of the gate. In theory, this is possible to do. But in the real world, it’s never possible. In theory, if we could do this, life would be so much easier. We’d know “whole truths” and could retain the learning forever. But in reality, chasing these “artificial certainties” guarantees we learn next to nothing.
In this, the 4th in this series of Emergence Basics videos, Maria, Sam, and Steve each share on what they hate about teaching Emergence. Topics include a broad look at why traditional education wounds people’s abilities to learn (school injuries), why most students fail to understand new learning because they have never been taught that they first need a starting point (basics before specifics), and how self-critical observations made during the learning process make learning next to impossible.
In this, the 5th group in this Emergence Basics series, we explore what is surely the most difficult of all topics; the idea that the proof for that Emergence (as a system of knowledge and discovery) is different and unique lies in the core mathematics underlying every tenet of this system: The math. Tipping Point based math, an alternative way to assess the world. As opposed to traditional maths, such as statistics or logical assessments. Most important here is to see how painful this can be to learn, including that being on both sides; as the student who doesn’t yet know and the teacher who does, can be the most painful state of all.
In this, the sixth episode in the Emergence Basics series, we explore the basic elements of Emergence Psychotherapy. Here we move through the steps incurred during a session, including [1] finding a topic, [2] operationalizing this topic, [3] personalizing this topic, and [4] finding wounds. In particular, the effects of being startled as related to diagnosis are discussed in depth. And in the course of discussing these things, several people also have life-changing ahas.
What makes learning Emergence so difficult? The first is a series of videos which explore this question. The idea that everything in Emergence is rooted in complementary pairs of “a priori” patterns.
In this video, Sam, Erik, and Steve explore why teaching Emergence (as a system of human knowledge), and especially when used as the basis for a therapy, is incredibly difficult. In part, it comes down to the idea that having an “emergence” (a life-changing experience) is never merely due to an improvement in a person’s logical understanding. Rather, and emergence IS an literally epiphany, in large part, a spiritual experience. Thus having this experience, and then generalizing this to all personal change, is the necessary ingredient in being able to teach emergence.
In this intensely complex and important video, Sam, Erik, and Steve explore Part 2 of why teaching Emergence (as a system of human knowledge), and especially when used as the basis for a therapy, is incredibly difficult. This time we begin with a hopeful starting point, Erik’s suggestion that we begin with determining What We Can and Cannot Measure.Quite surprisingly, this led us to a wide range of topics, from Buddhism and Hinduism and Kant’s philosophy to Endophysics, Chaos Theory, and Carlo Rossi’s “Relational Quantum Mechanics.” And so much more. A fascinating look at what we can and cannot measure with a high degree of certainty. And no, this does not include statistics.
In this, the second video in this series, we continue to explore what makes learning Emergence so difficult. Specifically, in this video, we look at why knowing more creates great suffering.
Do we fight about our words? The context we disagree about? Or is there something far more primitive, something which occurs before we even speak? In this, the third video in this series, we look at how not having common definitions for words can cause deeply rooted experiences which make us feel like the other person doesn’t understand us.

In this, the fourth video in this series, we explore the idea of Relational (Endo) Measurement – the idea that we can only measure a person by observing this person interacting with another person. This directly contradicts what psychology claims, that we can know and measure people in isolation from the world.
