How can one become a happier person?
To most people, I am a very happy person, someone who loves life and lives to make a difference in the lives of others. And while these things are true, honestly, I think I struggle just as much as the next person, sometimes more. Things I do? I endlessly watch people, especially inquisitive toddlers who ignore boundaries, old people who quietly smile a lot, and feisty foul-mouthed teens. And I constantly read, write, sing, film and create, and look to learn from others.
If there’s one thing I credit more than anything else though, it’s simply this. When I was younger (and profoundly lost), I spent ten years practicing daily meditation. Most times, I’d climb a small mountain near my home and sit for hours. And towards the end of that period, I took a vow which I credit for much of my good life.
I vowed to never suffer without gain.
Most of my happiness has come from taking this vow and from the good people who have helped me to be a better person.
